Early Onset Dementia Dining Club
The Early Onset Dementia Dining Club is run by our Reach Beyond service’s Open Doors project and will be facilitated by experienced staff with a background in dementia care as well as our Open Doors facilitator who is living with early onset dementia.
Over 42,000 people are living with early onset dementia in the UK.
Our Dining Club will provide a way for people with early onset dementia to take part in a social activity that will help them to realise their potential, improve their self-esteem and meet people in a similar situation.
This club aims to bring people living with early onset dementia together, to set up a supportive network that meet in different restaurants of the clubs choosing across Salford.
Each member of the Dining Club will be asked for tips and suggestions for living well with dementia each month, which we can share with others in a regular newsletter.
Everyone needs a sense of purpose and to enjoy themselves. The aim of our club is to bring people together in a friendly and stimulating social environment.
This club is the first of its kind.

Helping people living with dementia to continue doing the things they love
The dining club has been set up in recognition that most support for people living with dementia occurs during the day and some people living with early onset dementia are still in full time employment. This often means that they miss out on vital support.
Keeping an active social life is key to helping someone living with dementia feel happy and motivated, which is why activities like our dining club are so important to help people living with dementia to continue doing the things they love!
Dementia Friendly Communities
Dementia Friendly Communities is a programme which facilitates the creation of dementia-friendly communities across the UK. Everyone, from governments and health boards to the local corner shop and hairdresser, share part of the responsibility for ensuring that people with dementia feel understood, valued and able to contribute to their community.
Our dining club project aims to create a more dementia friendly Salford by working with local restaurants and venues to become dementia-friendly. Staff provide venues the dining club visits with Dementia Friends training and a guide, developed by the Alzheimer’s Society, to help customer-facing staff serving customers with dementia.
