There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in R&I when you work for GMMH, enriching your career development, sharing your insights or beginning your own research journey.
Research isn’t only done in universities and labs! It’s essential that the NHS is a key part of this process, utilising our experience and expertise in health and care settings.
More than that, research is a key factor in professional development of our workforce, improving staff satisfaction, recruitment and retention. Where better to do mental health research and innovation than in Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust?
Staff involvement can include:

We encourage staff from all disciplines to embark on a research journey with us: from a small project through to support for Clinical Fellowship, Masters degrees and PhDs. At any time, we have nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, pharmacists, social workers and others developing their research skills and portfolio with us.
We know your time is valuable, so we have several different ways you can get involved in research depending on your schedule.
Join the Research Interested Staff Network!
We want to increase links between researchers and clinical staff at GMMH, helping each to improve clinical practice as well as current and future research.
Joining our Microsoft Teams channel will allow you to:
- Hear about research findings, events, training and studies that are currently recruiting
- Link with researchers to contribute your knowledge, ideas and perspectives from experience
- Meet, network and share with each other
Become a Research Advocate
Research Advocates work in clinical services across the Trust and provide a dedicated link between R&I and clinical teams. They play an important role in keeping staff and service users informed about the latest opportunities.
- Work closely with researchers and research delivery staff
- Update colleagues about relevant studies
- Facilitate meetings between your team and researchers
- Share information and the latest findings
- Be one of the first to hear about new studies and trials
- Help improve outcomes for service users with quicker access to treatment and new technologies or therapies
- Help earn money for your team via clinical service engagement rewards
- Receive research-related CPD opportunities
- Be a part of a network of like-minded colleagues in the Trust
We are always looking for enthusiastic Research Advocates to join our network and help us spread the word about research. If you work in a clinical team and have 15 – 30 minutes a week, we want to hear from you!
