Alcohol Awareness Week 2020

Alcohol Awareness Week, 16 to 22 November 2020, is an opportunity for us to get thinking about drinking. This year's theme is Alcohol and Mental Health. The Achieve Bolton, Bury, Salford and Trafford teams are running several virtual events, open to all, to get people talking:
- Coffee and Conversation, Wednesday 18 November 2020, 14:00 - 15:00
The annual information sharing alcohol quiz and mythbusting with Ross. This event will be held on Microsoft Teams, please email ross.darbyshire@gmmh.nhs.uk for an invitation
- Booze and Your Brain: A discussion with SJ and Claire (CBT Therapist), Thursday 19 November 18:00 - 19:00
Have a chat about managing your mental health and alcohol. This event will be held on Microsoft Teams, please email sarah-jane.truman@gmmh.nhs.uk for an invitation
- Achieve does Task Master, Friday 20 November 2020, 11:00 - 12:00
Join the team for their own version of the reality TV show. This event wil be held on Microsoft Teams, please email lis.ashton@gmmh.nhs.uk for an invitation

Training for Staff and Volunteers
In recognition of alcohol awareness week, the SSN Occupational Development and Training team have 2 training sessions available to GMMH staff and volunteers. These courses are suitable for anyone who works with people experiencing problems with their use of alcohol or who wish to improve their knowledge of the subjects.
Alcohol Awareness (19/11/2020 10am-12.30pm)
This session will cover the physical, psychological and social effects of alcohol use. It will also equip learners with a knowledge of unit limits, drinking guidelines and ways of supporting people experiencing problems with their use of alcohol.
Promoting Mutual Aid (20/11/2020)
This session will equip participants with an understanding of the different types of mutual aid available to people who want to reduce or cease their use of alcohol and look at some effective strategies to promote engagement in mutual aid.
There is no charge to GMMH staff or volunteers to attend these online sessions.
