Love your liver roadshow comes to Salford!

The UK roadshow will arrive in Salford tomorrow (January 17) offering pop-up clinics to assess and test liver health. The roadshow will be at Morrisons, Irwell Place, Eccles, from 10am-4pm.
Free liver health assessments are on offer at the roadshow to highlight the risks of leading an unhealthy lifestyle. Health experts will be on hand to answer questions and offer good practical advice about how to maintain a healthy liver.
Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are supporting the British Liver Trust’s Love Your Liver campaign which focuses on reducing alcohol intake, cutting down on sugary and fatty foods and getting regular exercise. Information about Salford Drug and Alcohol Service, a service provided by GMW, will be available on the day.
Members of the public interested in participating will be asked to complete a Love Your Liver Health Check. If this shows up risk factors for liver damage, they will be offered a FibroScan to evaluate the degree of liver stiffness, or scarring, known as fibrosis. Anyone identified as requiring further investigation, is responsible for arranging their own follow-up appointment with their GP.
Last year, 22 per cent of people scanned had some degree of early liver damage and were encouraged to go to their doctor for more tests. The North West has some of the highest rates of liver disease in the country, which is often detected too late.
Other organisations supporting the campaign include Salford Royal NHS, Salford GPs and the Salford City Council Health Improvement Service.
