Who are Research Advocates? 

Our mission at GMMH is to ensure that every service user and member of staff can take part in and benefit from research and innovation. Research Advocates work in clinical services across the Trust and provide a dedicated link between Research & Innovation and clinical teams. They play an important role in keeping staff and service users informed about the latest opportunities.  

 

We are always looking for enthusiastic Research Advocates to join our network and help us spread the word about research. If you work in a clinical team and have 15 – 30 minutes a week, we want to hear from you!

What do Research Advocates do? 

As a Research Advocate, you will work closely with researchers and research delivery staff to: 

• Help prioritise which research studies are most relevant to your team and service users 
• Help book time for relevant researchers to attend team meetings 
• Update colleagues about relevant research studies currently recruiting  
• Help share recruitment materials for relevant studies in staff or patient areas  
• Help enable researchers to recruit service users on your team’s behalf 
• Share recruitment performance summaries with your team (provided by Research & Innovation team)  
• Share information with your teams about the latest research findings and implications for clinical practice 

 

What are the benefits of being a Research Advocate? 

Research-active NHS Trusts have better outcomes for patients. By signing up as a Research Advocate, you will help us deliver the NHS pledge to service users: ‘to inform you of research studies in which you may be eligible to participate’. You will also help us empower staff with the latest information about evidence-based practice. 

 

You will be one of the first to hear about new studies and trials, as well as the latest findings and results. This will enable you to offer your service users quicker access to treatment, and access to cutting edge technologies and therapies (dependent on the study).  

 

Research Advocates also have access to research related CPD opportunities, and support relevant to your interests, needs and career plans. You will also join a network of like-minded colleagues from across the Trust.
