Congratulations to GMMH Research Unit Lead!

We are thrilled to announce a significant accomplishment within our Complex Trauma and Resilience Research Unit (C-TRU).

With great delight, we’d like to congratulate Filippo Varese, one of the Directors of C-TRU at GMMH, on his appointment as Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester.

Professor Varese, who became a clinical psychologist in 2014, has focused on trauma studies in people with severe mental health conditions. Through his vast contributions to trauma research, he has established himself as an exceptional educator and researcher.

Filippo stated:

"I am delighted by this recognition, which is certainly a testament to the C-TRU team's exceptional dedication and contributions to research into trauma and complex mental health difficulties." It is a significant victory for the research unit, which was founded five years ago and has had such a positive impact in such a short period of time.”

C-TRU was founded in 2018 by Filippo and other researchers (Sandra Bucci, Katherine Berry, Richard Brown, and Eleanor Longden). The unit's goal is to develop, test, and deploy innovative psychological therapies for people with complex mental health needs in the NHS. C-TRU has been involved in the implementation of several studies funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) in the past five years.

We wish Professor Varese and his team at C-TRU all the best in their future research and hope that they continue to exert a positive influence on increasing access to trauma-focused therapies and raising awareness of trauma informed care and its use in clinical practice.
